A former staff writer with The Los Angeles Times and award-winning journalist, as well as the Associate Director with Sen. Tom Hayden of a successful public policy campaign to stop tax dollars from subsidizing sweatshop labor, Erica brings expertise in journalism, community-labor coalition organizing and advocacy to the Council 36 communications office. She is responsible for creating newsletters, campaign flyers, advocacy kits and other materials as well as maintaining the Council’s social media presence. In addition, Erica provides support as needed to the Council’s 60 Local unions, including membership communications, presentations, collateral materials, public relations support and media outreach. Erica also hosts an annual "face of public service" messaging and social media workshop in the summer, open to all members, and organizes special union events and activities as part of the national "AFSCME Strong" campaign. Erica graduated from UCLA cum laude with a BA in English.
