Welcome Council 36 Interim Director Tris Carpenter!

The Executive Board of AFSCME District Council 36 is very pleased to announce the appointment of Council 36 Interim Executive Director Tris Carpenter, effective immediately. Tris, who has over 25 years of experience in the Labor Movement and a dozen years in AFSCME, previously served as Council 36’s Organizing Director. 

Among his campaigns, Tris has organized thousands of new AFSCME members from such diverse employers as: LA County Sanitation Districts, Birmingham Community Charter High School, City of Anaheim, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA, and most recently, LA County Public Defenders. Tris has also served as National Organizing Director for the Motion Picture Editors Guild, IATSE Local 700 and Organizing Director for AFSCME Council 4 in Connecticut.  He holds an MA in Labor Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a BA from Syracuse University in New York.

Tris succeeds Cheryl Parisi, former Executive Director of Council 36, who just retired on May 31st, 2018 after serving AFSCME for 40 years.
