LOCAL 148 RUNNING IN KINSHIP WITH HOMEBOY INDUSTRIES

On Saturday morning, September 21st, 2019, members of the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Union (Local 148) and their families gathered to run the Homeboy 5K.   Local 148 crushed their initial goal and was able to raise $10,544 for Homeboy Industries.  Homeboy trains and supports formerly gang involved and previously incarcerated people.  Their services have assisted numerous public defender clients, and to this day, continues to widen the field of reentry services.  Local 148 is committed to support organizations like Homeboy Industries as it continues to advocate for criminal justice reform.

Members Natasha Khamashta, Veronica Ramos, and Elsa Leyva attended the AFSCME Public Service Presidential Forum in Las Vegas on August 3rd.  The event was moderated by Huffington Post and the Nevada Independent.  Our members heard from Democratic Presidential Candidates about issues that affect us as public defenders and public servants.
