Bet Tzedek Legal Services Union continues to rally against employer

Employees and union supporters lined Wilshire Avenue on Tuesday afternoon while holding signs demanding a fair contract with Bet Tzedek Legal Services.

For the second time in the past few weeks, AFSCME Local 946 has publicly called out Bet Tzedek management for their low-ball wage offers and refusal to offer fair healthcare benefits to the union. Last month, the union held its first picket to call attention to Bet Tzedek’s unwillingness to settle a fair contract. Now, after more than eight months of negotiations, the union is no closer to settling a fair contract then it was weeks ago. Instead of investing in its employees, Bet Tzedek has decided to invest more than $980,000 to its endowment. The union is frustrated, fed up, and ready to apply more pressure to management.

“This is about us demanding what we deserve,” said Leisette Rodriguez, AFSCME Local 946 Executive Board Member. “We advocate for the most marginalized populations in our communities to have what they deserve and now we must do the same for ourselves.”

AFSCME Local 946 is asking that the community continues to support their fight for a fair contract as they continue negotiations. Please share their story on social media and be on the lookout for more actions.
