AFSCME Local 2002 members have ratified their first collective bargaining agreement with the City of Anaheim.

After successfully organizing three bargaining units, the confidential Unit, the general management unit and the professional/technical unit, an interim leadership team and bargaining committee got to work, and both sides signed ground rules by the City and AFSCME District Council 36 in October 2018.

Six months ago, AFSCME Local 619 in the City of Cerritos began negotiating a new union contract. As many local unions have experienced, negotiating during the COVID-19 pandemic has been even more difficult than before. However, this time, negotiations were different than they have been before, and the Local 619 bargaining team was able to negotiate a new contract with major wins.

On September 28, 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1362 into law. While it may have been just another bill on his table to sign, for our AFSCME Local 830 members, this bill meant that Food & Agriculture Code (FAC) 486 would finally be amended.

Our theme for our 27th Biennial Convention was Celebrating AFSCME 36 Heroes. We wanted to highlight some of the amazing work our members have been doing in the workplace and in the community.

At our 27th Biennial Convention this past weekend, we elected the 2021-2023 Executive Board. Congratulations to this new set of leaders!

It has been a challenging year for District Council 36, between the global pandemic and a move into new headquarters. The outgoing Executive Board did an incredible amount of work to provide members a beautiful, new space to help AFSCME grow. And the convention committee, its volunteers, and staff, produced an event that pulled us all together, after being apart for far too long.

Our siblings at UNAC/UHCP are in a tough contract fight with Kaiser Permanente. The Council 36 Executive Board voted unanimously to adopt a resolution in support of UNAC/UHCP.
