Appreciating All That Unions Do

A Message from Interim Executive Director Darrin Spann

Sisters and Brothers:

With Thanksgiving upon us, allow me to wish you and your loved ones all a joyous holiday and a bountiful feast. We are an extended family in AFSCME, inextricably tied together in the struggle for worker justice and fairness for all.

It is the traditional time of year in which we express our gratitude for what we have. But in the labor movement, it is important to recognize that so much of what we have, we have only because workers stood together and demanded it -- including, of course, the quality time with family and friends that we enjoy on long week-end holidays.

Every single victory that we have won on the job, and those of generations of workers before us, are the result of our fundamental commitment to bettering each other's lives -- in unity and togetherness.

As we sit around the dinner table Thursday, let us be thankful for every battle that labor has waged, and let us honor AFSCME, and all labor unions, as agents of restorative economic and social justice from which we all benefit.

May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving!

In solidarity,

Darrin Spann

Interim Executive Director
