On Saturday, April 13, AFSCME District Council 36 held an amazing new steward training with more than 50 members from over a dozen different locals unions.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice Ratifies First Contract

After a nearly two-year fight, the members of Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles (AAAJ) ratified their first Union contract on May 11, 2020.

Council 36 Helps With Food Drive

On April 25, 2020, AFSCME Local 119 partnered up with Council 36 and Koreatown Youth Community Center to host a food drive and deliver food to our community members in need during this COVID-19 pandemic. We received many donations and we were able to feed about 300 families. Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped us. We were able to pack 300 bags in less than three hours! We hope to do this again soon.

In the midst of a public health crisis, AFSCME District Council 36 members in the City of Los Angeles are unwavering in their commitment to providing the essential services our communities depend on. Los Angeles and its Labor partners have endured many hardships together, and if the COVID-19 pandemic continues to accelerate, our members will remain dedicated to ensuring Angelenos continue to receive crucial city services.

Los Angeles Parks & Rec Employees Impacted by COVID-19

Sean Rivas typically spends his 12-hour shift at a Los Angeles shelter taking care of its homeless residents. As as Recreation & Park Assistant, he makes sure the residents are fed and have access to a shower, bed, and warm blanket. Now Sean has the added task of making the shelter residents feel comfortable during this COVD-19 pandemic.

AFSCME 2020 Convention Goes Virtual

From President Lee Saunders:

Yesterday, the International Executive Board voted to make the 44th International Convention a “virtual convention,” and to not have an on-site convention in Los Angeles in August. This decision was made to protect us all during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Rest assured, this virtual convention will fulfill all the requirements laid out in AFSCME’s constitution. Details of how the convention will operate are currently being developed, and we will share more information when it is available.
