Steward Training 101 | April 13, 2024

On Saturday, April 13, AFSCME District Council 36 held an amazing new steward training with more than 50 members from over a dozen different locals unions.

Who's Got Your Vote?

There were a total of 19 candidates that attended our PLAC meeting to answer our members’ questions and seek a Council 36 endorsement. Each municipality had its own timeslot which allowed members to question candidates about issues directly affecting their communities. There were a lot of healthy conversations and our members were able to see who deserves their support.

2019: A Year in Review

In a year that was supposed to be tough for Unions, AFSCME District Council 36 was able to persevere and achieve so much.

We bargained, organized, and protested so that our members were able to get the fair contracts they deserve. Our members with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts finally reached an agreement after a two-year battle. This was the case with many of our Locals who were negotiating for a new contract.

GUESS Again Marciano Family

On November 1, 2019 the Marciano Art Foundation (MAF) workers “Marched on the Boss” and filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board. Just a few days later, all 70 workers that would have been covered by a union contract were laid off and the Foundation closed its doors to the public. The Marciano family have a long history of violating workers’ rights and this was another gross and highly illegal action on their part.

Lynwood Keeps Penny Tax Indefinitely

Three years ago, the City of Lynwood passed a one cent sales tax bill known as the Penny Tax. The initial bill included a 10-year sunset, but last night, 75.16 percent of Lynwood voters passed Measure PS which will extend the tax bill indefinitely.
