Volunteer Member Organizers do vital work for unions and we wanted to celebrate all of our Council 36 VMOs with a VMO Appreciation Day.

After refusing to settle for less than they deserve, AFSCME Local 1895 members secure a fair contract with the City of Lawndale.

On Saturday, April 13, AFSCME District Council 36 held an amazing new steward training with more than 50 members from over a dozen different locals unions.

Glenda Evans began working for the City of San Diego in 1999. She is now a water plant operator and the only woman in her position in the City.

Evans initially started in an administrative position within the City but wanted to further her education. She began taking water courses at a local college. In 2006, when the City began reducing their workforce, it left treatment plant operator positions vacant. She stepped up to the plate and became a water plant operator trainee, beginning her shift into a new career.

AFSCME’s Saunders: It’s time to turn ‘anguish into action’ on gun violence

WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement about the gun violence epidemic after yet another school shooting this week:

AFSCME Local 126 members have ratified their first Union contract with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).

AFSCME Local 18 and Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts have reached a tentative agreement.

AFSCME District Council 36 stands in solidarity with SEIU Local 721 as they prepare for a potential unfair labor practice strike.

Last week, SEIU Local 721 members voted in favor of authorizing a ULP strike, with a resounding 98% voting YES. The more than 50,000 frontline, Los Angeles County workers represented by SEIU Local 721 are asking that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors show that they care about frontline workers and bargain in good faith.

As National Crime Victims' Rights Week begins, the Coalition of Probation Unions, which includes AFSCME Local 1967 and AFSCME Local 685, called on state and local officials to strengthen and modernize the Los Angeles County Probation Department at a press conference Monday.
